CLOGHERTOWN UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB
CHRISTMAS NEWSLETTER 2015
Club Development
Due to the great success of the recent White Collar Boxing event which netted €23,000, the Club's finances are now in a much healthier position allowing the Club to begin planning for the next phase of the Club's development, i.e. the installation of water and electricity and laying the ground-work for the erection of a modern dressing-room, with meeting room(s), that will serve the players and the wider community.
White Collar Boxing Night
The Club wish to thank most sincerely all those who helped in making this occasion at Tattersalls, Ratoath on Saturday October 24th such a great success. A special word of thanks to all the boxers who sacrificed time and endured grueling training regime in preparation for the night, Huge gratitude to the many sponsors and to all those who came along and supported the event on the night. We hope you enjoyed the night’s entertainment.
Club Finances :
The day to day costs of running the Club are considerable. One of the Club's most important sources of funding is the Registration Fee paid by each player at the beginning of each season. This money helps in the up-keep of the pitches, the provision of playing gear and footballs and most importantly covers the cost of player insurance. The Club would like to remind all players, and their parents and guardians that, unless any outstanding registration fees are paid by 31st January 2016, the player in question will no longer be a registered member of Cloghertown United Football Club.
Girl’s Team
Up until recent years, Cloghertown United have had very successful girls teams, winning the U15 league and cup double in 201. It is hoped to revive girl’s football, starting in 2016. If you feel you would like to play soccer or would like more information please contact Terry White on 0868570897.

Chairman's Address
As a rural Club with a relatively small catchment area, Cloghertown United, to date, has been punching above its weight in the various Leagues in which teams are entered. This is due to the dedication of the players, their coaches and, in the case of the under-age teams, their parents. We thank you all for supporting Cloghertown United in its efforts to provide a healthy sporting outlet for the children and young adults of the surrounding communities.
Yours in Sport,
Paul Madden
Team Reports :
Under 9/10’s:
This year our U9/10 team are playing in the NECL coaching league. All the games are played Saturdays in Navan on Astro-Turf pitches, this can only be good for the future when we go back to playing on grass. It took a while to get used to new rules; however there is already big improvement in their passing game and quick thinking in tight areas. New players are always welcome (Born 2006/7/8). Contact Noel - 0864199224 or join us at training on Wed nights 6-7pm in Cushinstown AC.
Under11’s:
We have a squad of 13 players this year for our U11 team. We are doing very well in our league. We train in Ardcath Primary School and would like to thank Mr O’Mahony for the use of their all-weather pitch. I would also like to thank the parents for all there help and support. It's a team with a very bright future with some great young talent coming through.
Under 13’s:
Our U13’s consist of a mix of 17 boys and girls. The core of the team have been together since U7’s, we feel the team has gelled well over the years. With some great additions last year and this summer, it is clear that success is only around the corner. We are competing in the NDSL with tough competition but the children are well able to contest every game. We would like to thank all the parents who give massive support on the sidelines of every match, rain, hail or shine.
Under 14’s:
After a very difficult start to the year, we now have a squad of 14 players. The results of the last few games have been good, and we look forward to a good run in our league after Christmas. We train one night a week in Cushenstown and would like to thank the parents who support us in all that we do.
Under 16’s:
After a very successful last season with League and Cup Double. Our team is still unbeaten going back to October 2014 (Over 40 games). This year we entered SFAI Cup, this is a cup knockout competition with 220 other teams from all over the country. We’ve won our first four matches against tough opposition (2 A teams and 2 Premier teams) and are into the last 32. Hopefully we can go very close or even with it. Great to see as the team has been together from an early age.
Senior Team:
Cloghertown Utd's first team, playing in the Leinster Senior League, has got off to an excellent start to the new season. Having played 7 games so far, they lie joint 3rd in the table, three points behind the leaders with two games in hand. In the Leinster Junior Shield. Having only conceded 11 goals so far (the 2nd lowest in the division), the emphasis on strengthening the defense has worked well. The goals are starting to flow at the other end with the added confidence in the team. The inclement weather over the last few weeks with the cancellation of some fixtures hasn`t helped in trying to keep the flow going. Good attendance at training has kept the lads in good shape and with the help of Rod Cosgrove of Ashbourne Rugby Club and their excellent new 4G pitch; it is proving to be a great training surface and the closest surface to grass to play on. The always coveted honor of being top goal scorer in the team always proves to be a great source of banter and bragging rights, and this season is no different. So to keep everyone happy, the leading contenders at present are Darragh Shanahan 5 goals, Paddy Arnold 4 goals (hat trick last game) and Eoin Andrews 3 goals. There is a long way to go yet, and don`t forget the rest of the team who give a vital contribution to every game.

That's all for now from the team. Have a great Christmas.
